A San Bruno high school band teacher pleaded not guilty Monday to multiple felony charges for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old female student.

Adam Albrecht, 28, of Broadmoor, faces 16 felony counts of oral copulation with a minor and 16 felony counts of unlawful sexual intercourse after he allegedly began a physical relationship with one of his students in February, Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said. The relationship apparently lasted until June, Wagstaffe said.

Albrecht is also charged with witness dissuasion, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and contributing to the delinquency of a minor for allegedly providing the girl with alcohol and marijuana, Wagstaffe said.

Albrecht, who taught band, choir and orchestra at Capuchino High School, appeared in a Redwood City courtroom wearing the red jail uniform used for high-security prisoners, his hands cuffed to a waist chain.

Albrecht faces a maximum of about 30 years in prison if convicted, but prosecutors are not seeking a maximum sentence, Wagstaffe said. Albrecht resigned from the school last week, interim superintendent David Miller said.

Police Lt. Dave Parenti declined to comment on whether the alleged sex was coerced, although he said the student cooperated with investigators.
